Need Help 8 months after Car Accident
Donation protected
Hey y’all it’s Grit. I’m writing this with a heavy heart and a sense of shame, but I don’t see any other way to pay for rent this month and so I’m asking for support again.
It’s been a hard eight months since the car accident. I started working again as soon as I was able to stand with out walking aids, and Luz and I were finally able to find a place to rent after bouncing around on friend’s couches for two and a half months while I recovered from surgery and Luz started treatments. We got our apartment in the belief that Luz’s brain injury would heal up quickly and we would both be able to contribute to rent, bills, and life expenses.
Unfortunately that was not the way things played out, as Luz’s doctors haven’t yet cleared Luz to work and they continue to have a full schedule of doctor appointments, physical, occupational, & speech therapy, along with other treatments. After struggling financially for months we’ve come to the decision that we need to move in with my parents in Washington. However, Luz has two more months of TBI therapy and treatment that they need to complete in Minneapolis before we can leave, and I am not able to keep us afloat for those two months, as work has reduced my hours to 10 hours a week. My family has been a huge support to us emotionally and financially over these past months but aren’t able to support us more than they already have. And so I have to turn to community and ask for help.
I am hoping to raise $10,000 over the next two or three months. This would go to two months of rent, paying off overdraft fees on my debit card, help us get a car tune-up, cover our estimated bills and living expenses for February, help me pay my credit card minimum payments as I’ve taken on a lot of debt these past eight months, and give us money for all the moving costs we will incur going across the country.
This feels like a huge ask, especially given how precarious and difficult these times are for us all, but if you are able to share a few dollars or spread the word, Luz and I would be immensely grateful.
Thank you for reading, and being a part of our community <3
