As we all know Lonnie has had a rough year with illness, cellulitis, abscess in left leg that required 3 surgeries. In September 2022 Lonnie was back in the hospital with a hand/arm infection. This visit took a turn as the doctors did additional testing and looked at his past year’s medical records. Once he was released Lonnie met with the oncology doctor and did a bone marrow biopsy. After many doctor visits and a second bone marrow biopsy he was diagnosed on November 1, 2022, with MDS Excessive Blast 2 which is a form of blood cancer. Lonnie made the decision to do his treatment at MD Anderson in Houston so he could receive the best care for this type of cancer.
Within 3 weeks of being first diagnosed his Blast went from 10% to 16% which led the doctors to dig further into his marrow and blood work. On November 23rd we received the heartbreaking news that Lonnie was diagnosed with Leukemia. Lonnie has been at MD Anderson since November 21, 2022, battling the flu, then pneumonia all while receiving chemo to start his battle against Leukemia. Once his Bone Marrow Blast comes down to 5% or below Lonnie can start his process of receiving a stem cell transplant that requires him to be in Houston for 5 months.
This fund is being established to assist with all expenses related to Lonnie’s care during this difficult time.
