My story, where do I start? I could start by saying I'm from a low income area "the hood" & I could also say I grew up with out this or that. I don't want to lead you down that path. Instead, I would like your help on the strength of you wanting to see me grow, develop, and build as a young minority entrepreneur.
Hello I'm Ivan "Fella" Hawkins, I was born in Greenville NC on September 26, 1982. My was a single mother of 3 to myself and my 2 sisters. Back then the neighborhood was tough, so my mom (Miss Overportective) lol, never let us go far from home, like dont get off the porch! So unknowingly this would spark off my cooking career, at the tender age of about 10 years old or maybe younger. It was called best by my mom "KP duty", we knew that meant "Kitchen Patrol". Pulling chicken off the bone, peeling boiled eggs & chopping it all for chicken salad for somebody's family reunion and I can't forget peeling potatoes & mama fussing saying "and watch what you doing fella you cutting into my potato",meaning cut the skin not the potatoes.
Fast forward to now, at my young age of 36, I have been learning, cooking and developing a flavor on some old fashioned southern dishes and taking them to levels you will have to taste to believe. Also learning how to manipulate meats to become as tender and flavorful than you have ever had.
That's where the LookAtDatDer saying came from, me posting my dishes on social media and saying just that look-at-dat-der. Next, someone wanted to buy a plate and that developed into now LookAtDatDer BBQ & Catering. Now catering and working a full time job is hard with some sleepless nights, but it all has been worth it.
I now have the opportunity to buy my own restaurant. With that being said I'm jumping out on faith and cashing out my 401k for the down payment. Now I am asking of you all for some help with start up cost and renovating this old property and establishment. So, please help me preserve something old while creating something new! #LookAtDatDer
