LOOPHOLE light installation at Burning Man

Hello friends, my name is Deif, I'm a burner and for a long time, I had this dream to bring art to Burning Man. This year we have the opportunity to make this dream a reality. Along with my Dad, Josep and my brother Daniel, we will embark on this challenging journey to Black Rock City in Nevada, USA, with the mission to participate and bring an art piece to one of the most influential and special events in the world. Together we form a creative studio based near Barcelona in Catalonia. We are building this large-scale light installation, called Loophole, the material and logistics costs are very high, so we are looking for different ways to fund it. Being from Europe makes it even more difficult for us to bring art to the Playa so that's why we are asking for your collaboration.

This funding goal is only a part of the total budget needed, but any contribution will help. All donations will have their names on the project website and we will physically write your name on the installation.

Donations from $50 will be rewarded with a laser-cut wooden pendant, and from $100 or more will be rewarded with a special laser-cut pendant exclusively designed for the occasion. Pendants will be delivered onsite on the Playa. (more info on that emailed personally).

The installation will be premiered at the Nowhere festival, the Euro Burning event in the Monegros desert. (video above).

Project Description:

Loophole is an art installation designed especially for Burning Man. It is inspired by the geometrical torus shape, which is the shape of the magnetic shield that protects life on Earth. A central platform represents the earth and is a space where people can celebrate life!

Physical Description:

A series of metal circles generate a half-toroid shape, creating an infinite loop of light animation at night. The half circles attached to the ground are made out of aluminum and are gently shifted to achieve a spiral shape. At the center, there is a small wood platform of diameter 9 ft and 4,5 ft of height that can hold up to 5000 pounds or more.

Interactivity:

Walk or ride directly into and around an endless audiovisual loop. This experience captivates the senses with a custom-made soundscape that is elevated by custom-coded light visuals to take you on an immersive journey as you move through the loop. Expand your adventure further by walking up either set of stairs to a wooden platform. This platform is a nod to the BM theme of Animalia where people can dance, meditate, or perform atop an AI-generated image; engraved to symbolize a new planet that is helping to protect humans and animals from cosmic rays.

Philosophy:

Loophole starts from a toroid, a basic yet beautiful geometric shape, that recurs in nature and the universe. Most importantly, it’s the shape of the magnetic shield of planet Earth that protects LIFE from cosmic ray storms and particles. The toroid shape attracts the particles to the poles and forms the wonderful light show of the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis.

The father of the project, at 70 years old, this master artist will step on the Playa and live a once-in-a-life experience.

A veteran burner and light artist is leading the project and he's working around the clock to make it possible.

We have the lovely technical supervision of this young and super talented audiovisual engineer.

Daniel Giribet

Brother, a software engineer willing to get off his comfort zone, might write some creative code to animate the beast.

Ramon Solé

Professional musician and composer, he will be responsible for making the original music and sound effects for Loophole.

We are in Reno at the THE GENERATOR a fantastic and huge co-working for artists, we have built a new platform, we are very excited!

These dusty cases contain the Loophole and they are ready to ship to Nevada soon!

Hola amics, sóc el Deif, i des de fa molts d'anys que tinc aquest somni de portar una peça d'art al mític Burning Man. Aquest any tenim l'oportunitat de fer realitat aquest somni. Juntament amb el meu pare Josep Giribet, i el meu germà Daniel, ens embarquem en una aventura per aconseguir arribar al desert de Nevada als EUA, i construir allí una instal.lació artística de grans dimensions. Som un estudi creatiu familiar amb seu a Tàrrega, Catalunya. Estem construint aquesta instal·lació de llum a gran escala i no rebem cap finançament per aquest projecte i estem buscant diferents maneres de finançar-lo. Ser d'Europa ens fa encara més difícil portar art a l'altra punta de món. És per això us demanem la vostra col·laboració.

Aquest objectiu és només una part del pressupost total necessari, però qualsevol contribució per petita que sigui segur que ens ajudarà. Totes les donacions tindran el seu nom al lloc web del projecte i escriurem físicament el vostre nom a la instal·lació.

Les donacions de més de 20€ tindran de regal una bossa de nous ecològiques de la collita pròpia.
