Loop the Lake - DIY Road Rally
Donation protected
LOOP THE LAKE is a diy it yourself fossil fuel free road rally and documentary film.
Rider and film-maker Ben Nelson will attempt to travel well over 1,000 miles around the coast of Lake Michigan, traveling through four States and two countries to bring attention to sustainable transportation, clean water, and meet up with others working on amazing Eco-DIY projects.
Besides the travel itself, the project will be documented as a feature film to be released to the public through YouTube, Vimeo, other online sources, and public screenings. The film will include interviews and footage of some of the most clever and inventive backyard mechanics in the Great Lakes.
Funds for the project will first go directly to supporting the ride - cost of lodging, riding gear, motorcycle upgrades, and then to the documentary - SD cards, camera rentals, hiring a quadcopter operator.
What becomes of the project is up to you! With no funding, Ben will take a GoPro with and eat Ramen noodles on the side of the road. With funding the trip can be completed safely and in a reasonable amount of time with some good interviews and travel footage. With MAJOR funding, the result will be a full-blown feature length documentary, with a quality camera, some great interviews, and fantastic graphics and music.
The trip itself will be approximately one week long, sometime between September 1st and 15th. The exact start and fininsh dates depend on various factors, so stay tuned for the exact times! The route will roughly follow the shore of Lake Michigan, starting from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and traveling clockwise. We'll head to the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, take a stop in Canada, head south through Michigan, into Indiana, through Chicago, and complete the trip back to Milwaukee, making friends and going on an adventure the entire way!
Every dollar helps. Please contribute. You can also help if you want to participate. Join up and ride your own electric motorcycle, velomobile, recumbent bike, or Tesla around the lake, or some section of it!
You can also help out by providing lodging, or pointing us to AMAZING people doing work in your community in clean transportation and water, perhaps at your local Hackerspace!
