Lorelei-Late stage Multiple Sclerosis Home Care

Hello. my name is Drew McCabe.  I am organizing this fundraiser for Lorelei, to help with the exorbitant cost and burden of quality home care, above and beyond the very basic and lacking support from her high-quality health insurance.  Please help me get this wonderful person, mother and wife, what she needs for basic needs and comfort in this late stage of a horrible, debilitating disease.

 

Lorelei (wife and mother of 7) has had Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for 25 years since she was 29.

Some of you may recall that it was three years ago when Lorelei and family pursued a hopeful dream of Stems Cells helping her MS.  They spent over $60,000 on treatments.  A portion of the money came from GoFundMe, but most was from their savings.  They went to the Stem Cell Institute in Panama City, Panama, with nothing but hope and promise that it would work and avert her from being in a wheelchair for the rest of her young life.  Sadly, it did not work.  More tragically, recent Covid and pneumonia battles put her in the hospital for six weeks.  She is now bed-bound, incontinent, and only has the movement of one arm, and the inability to speak or swallow properly.

Rather than go to a nursing center, Lorelei pleaded with her husband and daughter to come home.  Of course, they granted her that wish, but it came with additional financing burdens and an unmanageable challenge in care-taking.

Lorelei continues to have constant pain, horrible sleep patterns, sickness, and numerous side effects this terrible disease can cause.  Her Trigeminal Neuralgia, a chronic pain condition that affects the Trigeminal Nerve, which carries sensation from your face to your brain, continues to punish her.  When they thought it could not get much worse – it did, exponentially – more than they could have imagined.  Lorelei is at an even more dire stage of this horrible disease.  The latest setback had rendered her in a bed with a feeding tube and full-time catheter – my heart breaks for her.

Everything is collapsing for her, her husband, and the kids.  Her husband has juggled working these extremely challenging three years with taking care of her and being nearby. Unfortunately, all their life savings have been depleted (even a recent inheritance) in order to pay all the bills from her illness, and is now borrowing against the house.

A tragic set of circumstances for my friends, and their children.  Even more daunting is the much needed care-taking and nurses’ services for her 24/7 care – her husband has his back against the wall with all the financial, physical, and mental stress – it is a house of cards without some $$ to bridge the gap.

The funds are needed to cover hospital expenses not covered by insurance and a budget to cover 4-5 months of care-taking services so her loving husband can leave her side to continue to work. There is something so very wrong when her insurance will pay hundreds of thousands at the hospital but none for therapies or care taking services at home – even the nurses visits run out in a couple of weeks. They are even having to pay for certain supplies and another more specialized wheelchair!

MS has robbed her of time on this earth, and her time with her husband and children.  Please join me in providing them some assistance, comfort, and a little dignity. They are proud people and so I am doing this for them.
