Lori Aoun's Celebration of Life Fundraiser

Ms. Lori Aoun, beloved principal of Sutterville Elementary School, died unexpectedly from stage four cancer on June 10th, 2024. We are devastated by this loss.

We, her friends and loved ones, are raising funds for her Celebration of Life event on August 24th, which will draw near one thousand attendees. Family, friends, colleagues, and students who knew Ms. Aoun across her 30+ years as an educator in the Sacramento City Unified School District will join together in the spirit of community and love. The Celebration of Life will be a colorful festival featuring student ensembles, performances, arts and crafts, a memorial service, and other festivities. Our goal is for Lori’s Celebration of Life to be a reflection of her passionate, caring, creative, and vibrant spirit.

Lori was a champion educator. For more than 30 years, she served the Sacramento City Unified District community as a First Grade Teacher, Reading Recovery Coach, Multilingual Department Specialist, and award-winning Administrator. Lori began her journey at Sutterville Elementary School as a parent, eventually moving into the role as Principal – a position she held for the last 19 years. Lori worked tirelessly to build a strong community at her school, where students and teachers thrived under her guidance. She was a strong proponent of social-emotional learning, as demonstrated through her unceasing efforts to understand every student as an individual, always greeting them by name and with a smile. Her kindness and dedication to her students was unparalleled.

May we all honor Lori by carrying on her legacy of love, tenderness, and warmth. Your support during this tragic time is felt with immeasurable gratitude.
