Lori Bakken’s Heart Attack Recovery
Donation protected
This weekend has been a whirlwind for our family. My step-mom Lori had a heart attack. She is currently resting comfortably at Abbott Heart Institute ICU awaiting surgery and is in very good hands!
Lori had not been feeling well the last few days. She stayed home from work last Wednesday as she didn't feel well. Went to work on Thursday and came home early on Friday. If anyone knows Lori she is one tough cookie and does not like Hospitals or Doctors and tries to avoid at all costs. Dad said he was taking her in on Friday and she said OKAY - no hesitation. Dad took her to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia and they thought originally that she had pneumonia. Another doctor viewed her scans and said that she had fluid on her lungs but that it was not associated with pneumonia. They also heard a heart murmur. At this time she was transported by ambulance to Abbott Heart Institute Friday night. They did further testing and moved her to the ICU on Saturday morning. She had an angiogram to determine the extent of the damage. Today, Sunday they did a transesophageal echocardiograph and determined that she will need open heart surgery to repair the damage. She will need a single bypass and a complete valve replacement. They said they should be able to do a tissue replacement so that she will not need to be on coumadin for life (thank you Jesus!).
Lori is one of the toughest women I have ever met. For those who don't know Lori - she is a 2 time cancer survivor (Breast in 1987 and Brain in 1988). She has endured more in her life than anyone I know! Despite the struggles she has already faced, she never gives up and always finds a way to overcome the problems that life sends. I have faith this will be the same!
Unfortunately, Lori's heath insurance only covers 80% of the expenses she will be incurring during this time. I have set up this fund to help offset some of those unpaid expenses. If you are able to donate in any way it would be greatly appreciated.
I will keep everyone updated on her surgery and recovery.
Thank you for your help and God Bless.
