On August 19th, 2015, Lori Maitland received the news that would change her life forever. After going through weeks of testing, unsure what the problem was, and being treated for something completely different, she realized her symptoms weren't getting any better, in fact, they were getting worse. Her Doctor scheduled a colonoscopy and knew quickly that Lori had stage 3 colorectal cancer. Her case was quite severe, so her Oncologist didn't want to waste any time. Treatments started right away. She's undergone weeks of radiation, chemotherapy, multiple surgeries and is still fighting like a champ. Her latest surgery was successful in removing the tumor, however she needs an additional 6 months of chemotherapy to ensure it doesn’t return.
Lori Maitland was born and raised in New Buffalo, Michigan. She comes from a large loving family and is # 12 of 13 children. She is known and loved by many throughout the community. She worked at St. Mary’s school for 11 years where she was known as Miss Lori, and then started her own cleaning business. In the past 15 years, she has really developed a strong client base, not only among the locals, but also second home owners. Her huge heart and willingness to feed an entire army has given Lori a wonderful reputation. She’s a proud mother to 2 boys, Ryan and Jason Dohner and an amazing Grandmother to Ella Dohner.
Unfortunately, cancer seems all too common now days. I think we all know someone that has been diagnosed with some type of cancer. It's upsetting and frustrating and not fair at all, but it is reality. Lori is way too young to let this take her life. Her attitude and outlook has been great. She's very proud and strong, but this is taking a toll on that. She needs our help. She's unable to work, which has put her family in financial distress, so any little bit of financial help we can raise would be a huge help for her and her family.
We’re also coordinating a benefit for Lori on Saturday, April 2nd, from 3pm-12am, at the American Hellenic Center in New Buffalo. If you are in the area and are available on April 2nd, we would love to have you.
Please help us with a donation. Any amount is appreciated.
Thank you so much and God Bless!
