Lorraine was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer in October 2016. She has since discovered that she had inherited a gene from her Father known as BRCA-2, this gene complicates the situation making it more difficult to control and makes the chances of the cancer returning much higher.
After some major surgery and chemotherapy at Cedar-Sinai in Los Angeles and while she was in remission, we decided to move back to the UK.
In August 2017 the cancer returned and Lorraine started treatment at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital where she was put on the same chemo as before; but due to complications with platelet levels, she had to stop and start a different chemo for three weeks out of four, for six months. With only three weeks to go the chemo had stopped working and the cancer has returned with a vengeance. She has been told by the Oncologist that she can no longer have chemo and that, in his opinion, she’s too advanced to go on BRCA2 Trials. The situation is now critical and she needs urgent treatment as soon as possible, or we fear the worst.
We researched alternative treatments in Mexico, (having heard positive things from friends and acquaintances over the years), and liked the look of Oasis of Hope in Tijuana. Shockingly, we then heard of a friend of a friend from the UK being treated for Stage 4 Bowel cancer at Oasis of Hope with amazing results.
Oasis of Hope, is an alternative cancer clinic using holistic medicine in conjunction with more traditional western treatments. The initial treatment is three weeks in Mexico followed by three months at home on a strict supplement and dietary regime followed by a shorter visit for some top-up therapy back at the hospital.
The long-term plan is that the tumour will shrink enough at the Oasis of Hope for her to then be eligible for BRCA2 trials at either The Royal Marsden in London, Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge or Slooan Kettering in New York. These trials, if successful, could reduce the chance of the cancer returning by up to 93%.
Anything you can give to help us reach our goal will be very much appreciated, the Oasis of Hope clinic will be $43,500.00 for the two of us, plus flights, accommodation and other costs for the next 3 months as Pete will have to take that time off work to be with Lorraine and look after her until we can get her back on a trial.
