Lorrie Eckman Heart Transplant Expenses
Donation protected
Our friend Lorrie Eckman underwent a heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic this week. She is progressing well and was recently moved from ICU to the heart/lung transplant step-down unit. It appears HER body has accepted the donor heart, and for that, we are grateful.
Here’s the situation:
The good news is if all continues to go well, in approximately two weeks, Lorrie will be released from the clinic. The bad news is the heart transplant team mandates the patient remain in the immediate Cleveland area until the transplant team feels the recipient can safely travel and return home without medical care or intervention.
Hence, the fly in the ointment, for Lorrie and her partner, home is over 100 miles away.
This extended stay in the Cleveland area will require Lorrie and her immediate caretakers (family /companion) to be financed entirely out of pocket for a 4-6 week stay in the Cleveland area over this holiday season. That translates to a month of unexpected expenses for lodging, meals, and related travel expenses to/from upcoming clinic appointments. Insurance does not cover these costs, which are deemed personal expenses.
As a bit of background, Lorrie is a diverse, strong, independent woman full of life and love. Lorrie's life thus far mirrors much of our own lives, that being life is a mix of scattered treasured moments interrupted by the harsh reality (sudden heart failure) that sometimes life doesn't seem fair.
In the past, Lorrie has not only overcome many of life's unexpected and inevitable challenges but used what she experienced to recover and move forward to help others in their journey to love themselves and one another while living one day at a time.
Lorrie is aware we want to assist in this time of need. She has always been the person to reach out to others, and now she needs our help to cover these additional costs associated with the transplant.
In closing, I ask that you consider opening your hearts, wallets and pocketbooks to help Lorrie Eckman meet her unforeseen and unexpected medical expenses associated with being the recipient of a new heart.
All the funds raised will go directly to Lorrie and her partner Pat to help cover the out-of-pocket expenses associated with her recent heart transplant.
Thank you for considering a donation.
