Loss of sight and family tragedy, help Amber!

On July 19, Amber went to the ER with an excruciating headache and blurred vision. By the time she left, she had lost her vision. She was diagnosed with acute glaucoma. The doctors said the headaches she had been having for some time were the pressure building up. She was sent to the Shiley Eye Institute for laser surgery to relieve the tremendous pressure.
However, several attempts at laser surgery over the following week were unsuccessful. The powerful lasers were unable to reach the back of Amber's eye.
During this time, Amber was receiving enormous prayer from a number of faith communities. She began to see shadows and slight colors. The doctors said this was impossible, that her sight was gone.
On July 24, 20 leaders, residents and interns examined Amber at the Shiley Eye Institute in La Jolla, and had a teleconference with the head of the Shiley Institute who was out of the country. The doctors remained puzzled and believed something else that was still unknown was also going on.
Amber has been tested for Lupus and is now being sent for a complete CT Scan and to a rheumatologists. She is losing weight at an alarming rate. There has been a laser surgery on her right eye that was able to relieve the pressure in that eye, but the left eye remains impassable, despite painful surgery with the strongest of lasers.
Then on the evening of August 3rd, the enormous stress that the family has been under came to a head when 20 year old Carlos experienced heart attack symptoms. Amber's husband, Humberto, immediately drove with Carlos to the ER, but on the way, they were hit by a vehicle that ran a red light and never even stopped. Thankfully, the vehicle hit just behind the drivers seat, and no one was seriously injured. But the van had to he towed and Carlos was taken to the ER in an ambulance. Again thankfully, Carlos was diagnosed with an anxiety attack rather than a heart attack.
At this juncture, Amber can see shadows, some color, and what she can see is distorted and seems to be in a dense fog. The pressure remains in her left eye, and she is undergoing testing to determine what else is going on with her health.
The cost of all these laser surgeries and consultations at the Shiley Eye Institute is not yet known, but Amber's insurance has said they will cover none of it.
Amber will be unable to return to work when the new school year starts, as well as to other part time jobs she has, and her income is counted on for the families' normal living expenses and bills. She and Humberto also have two children starting college in September.
It is not yet known whether they will also need a new family car to replace their van, badly damaged in the hit and run. If so, they will be responsible for paying off the existing loan on the totaled car, as well.
Amber is a giver and a doer. She works with severely handicapped children. She is the first to jump in when someone is in need. She's a leader in our church - a lay Prayer Minister, who is also involved in multiple service ministries and serves at the Altar. She is also very active in the Cursillo community.
Amber is a fighter, but she needs help in the basic day to day survival issues so she can focus on how she can move forward in her new reality.
