Lost Dog Recovery

Donation protected
Hey, this is Jeff. I met Kim (and Rick) Canales a few weeks ago around the Dundee, MI area as she was trying to find a lost dog "Chip". Sadly no one has positively seen Chip since he went missing and that story may not have a happy ending.

Yesterday someone randomly knocked on my door in Petersburg, MI, and sure enough, it was Kim out looking for yet another lost dog. Kim did not know where I lived so it was a happy coincidence to meet her at my front door. This time Kim and Rick were out looking for a dog that had been dumped in the area on January 16. We did a little scouting around the woods near my house and found some tracks! Kim set up her live trap and some cameras...long story short, at 4:30AM this morning, Kim successfully trapped this poor dumped (very cute!) dog, who is unfortunately slightly injured.

The good news is, the pup is off to the Humane Society for some great care. He's super cute, seems well-mannered, and once recovered from hopefully minor injuries, will be off to start a new life with an adopted family. With temperatures forecast in the teens the next few days, this dog was recovered just in time!

Talking with Kim and Rick, I learned they basically do Lost Dog Finding/Recovery as a hobby/community give back and full time "hobby". They both work full time and were happy they trapped this latest dog at 4:30AM so they could get him over to the Humane Society before they both had to rush off to work. They buy all the live traps ($500-$3000 depending on size) themselves, bait, time... Oh, and cameras. Lots of LTE/SMS fees for cameras set up around the live traps to make sure no animal gets left in the trap for more than maybe the 30 min it takes them to come rushing in to help it out. So lots and lots of dollars poured into this "hobby" of theirs.

Do they need your donation? No. They will do this regardless. However, if you do make a donation, maybe they can get another trap, another camera, another something to help recover that next lost dog that much faster.

To be on the up and up, Kim and Rick are not set up as an official charity, so any donation would not be tax deductible, and ultimately Kim will have the discretion to spend the money any way she wants....but trust me, it will go to an amazing effort!

Did I mention Kim volunteered to pay for this latest dog's X-rays to assess injury?
