Rebuilding Hope: Help the Smith Family Rebuild Their Life After a Devastating House Fire on Hilton Head Island

Dear Friends, Family, Classmates and fellow Hilton Head Islanders,

We are reaching out to you on behalf of Doug, Shelby, Keidis (14) and Kelton (9) Smith, who have experienced a devastating and life changing tragedy. Early on the morning of Saturday, September 9th, The Smiths home erupted into flames and consumed their home and most of their possessions. Due to fast thinking, the family was able to escape by breaking their second story bathroom window and jumping on to the hood of their car. Thankfully, Shelby, Doug, Kiedis (8th grade, HHIMS), and Kelton (3rd grade, HHISCA), did not sustain any major injuries.

The Smiths have lost nearly every material possession. This ordeal is a traumatizing experience that no family should ever have to endure. We want to hold this family up by providing for their needs as they recover physically, emotionally, and financially heal from this unimaginable trauma.

The Power of Community
The Smiths are active members of our community and are a joy to their neighbors, friends, colleagues, classmates, and teammates. Hilton Head Island and the Lowcountry has an incredible history and tradition of taking care of fellow Islanders when they are in need. This close-knit community knows how to rally when one of our own needs support. The Smith family now needs our collective strength and compassion to rebuild their lives from the ashes.

How You Can Help
It will take time and resources to piece together everything that was taken from them. We urge you to contribute whatever you can, whether it's $1, $5, $10, or more. Every bit counts when dealing with a loss of this magnitude. Your donation will go directly toward helping the Smith family secure a new home, replace essential belongings, provide emotional support to their children, and start the long process of rebuilding their lives. Please share our GoFundMe page with your friends and family to spread the word and make a difference during this difficult time in their lives. The Smith family extends their gratitude and is truly thankful that they have each other and our community to lean on.

Thank you,

Sarah Smith, Andrea Norman and Heather Malia Rath
