Lost & Found: A Tale of Family Reunion
Donation protected
Hi, I'm August. I'm reaching out today with a story close to my family's heart, one that speaks of love, separation, and the timeless hope of reuniting a family. My father, August Sr, regretfully left behind a son, John, in the Philippines amidst the chaos of the Vietnam War. Despite their best efforts, my father and my mother, Sharon, tried and failed to find John. This came to be a moment of shame that has followed my father throughout his life.
John's life was marked by challenges, not just in his upbringing after being left by his mother Julie (Last Name Unkown), but also in his health struggles as an adult. These trials only underscored his resilience and the loving family he built despite the odds.
The urgency of our mission has deepened. As my father faces the twilight years clouded by dementia, John's health has also seen better days. The importance of bringing a father and son together has never been more pressing, a chance for healing and closure that cannot delay.
This GoFundMe campaign seeks to bridge the gap that time and circumstances have created. We aim to raise funds for John and his family's travel expenses, ensuring a reunion that goes beyond just meeting—they'll be creating moments that will be treasured for the rest of their lives.
Your support, through donations or sharing our story, isn't just about covering travel costs; it's about kindling the light of family connection, allowing a father to hold his son, and for siblings to unite, for the first time. In these moments, we find the strength and love to overcome even the hardest of times.
Your generosity can turn the dream of a family reunion into a reality, offering solace and joy in the face of health adversities. Let's come together to make these precious connections happen. The Vietnam War destroyed many families, but it also helped to build a part of my family, we just haven't met them. Thank you for considering our plea for help.
All funds will go to pay for transportation costs like flights, hotels, obtaining passports, rental cars, food and general travel expenses. The family are all contract workers and have no vacation time, so anything left over will help to pay for missed wages while they will be away from their jobs.
