Last Journey
Don protégé
Not too often it happens to anyone, (Thank God) however it happened to me. I am on my third move with 8 horses 3 cats and one dog. It's been the toughest 18 months of my life! As most of you know 2 years ago I lost my job and a lease on the property we made our home for 6 yrs. It looked pretty much hopeless that I could hang on to my four legged family, however I was determined to do so. Then unforeseen forces sprung into action, and one friend handed me a credit card to buy food for the animals, another one bought food for me and kept my spirit up, soon I had a contract job, I was still facing eviction, by a greedy landlord, who had his eye on the brand new fencing and other improvements I made. Moving with animals is expensive especially when you have to take down fencing and outbuildings. In good faith I started a fundraiser, and was humbled and amazed at the outpouring of generosity and kindness from friends and strangers alike. We completed the second move
to what we thought was our “Forever home”, in Jan/2015. However our trials were not over yet, life played a cruel joke on us and “friends” of 22yrs took advantage of our situation. The promised “Lease Option” was used to get me help improve a fixer upper property, and foolishly I put $30 000 in it only to loose it and face the same predicament I was in barely a year ago. My X friends served me with a 30 day notice to move 3 days before Christmas! At this point I was quite at the breaking point, however another "Miracle" was about to manifest. During the trying times I met a new friend, who was somewhat of a similar predicament at crossroads in her life and we formed a partnership for a shared goal and dream, to work together for the preservation of the few remaining Spanish Colonial Mustangs and to advocate for the right to freedom of the much persecuted Wild Horses, because they are rapidly vanishing. This friend did something not too many people would do, sold her home and put all the proceedings towards the down payment on a beautiful 12AC ranch (I knew of this place)with a great horse set up! So we formed a 50% partnership. At this point I am better off then a year ago, I have steady job, however no backup at all due to having lost $30 000 in one year. Our ranch was a foreclosure, therefore people took whatever they could, for instance 60 rubber mats out of the big barn, which has cement floors, so we do need to replace those before we can move the Mustangs there. Also clean up pastures mend fences. I can sell some of my shelters because I won't be needing them however I am still $5000 short, my friend put all her money into the down payment, so I decided to just put this wish out there and hope for another miracle hopefully the last of this kind. I am retirement age yet still working for the Mustangs and for our mission, there is only so much “mileage” left in me, sometimes I feel. By the grace of God and Goodwill please help us make this last journey to our peaceful horse haven. Donate any amount you can and share. May God Bless you always.
