Saving TINUMIGUES: "Lots of Water, yet Nothing To Drink"
Barangay Tinumigues is located in the town of Lambayong, in the province of Sultan Kudarat in Central Mindanao, Philippines. This one vast area of agricultural land where crops such as Palay, Corn, Coconut, Mango and Bananas were harvested abundantly is now occupied by inundated water that has flooded the town since 2008 brought about by continuous rainfall and the rising of the nearby, heavily-silted, Allah River.
Since then, the people of Tinumigues have been subjected to a lot of tremendous amount of ordeal and hardship. Not only is their source of livelihood affected, but also their way of life. What was once an idyllic scene of endless rice fields with carabaos and cows grazing under the sun, Tinumigues is now a village built on stilts and footbridges made of bamboos. The people of Tinumigues have been resilient. Even with the unbearable conditions, they still want to hold on to their community and they continue to persevere even up to this day. Their most vital need is the most basic. They have no easy access to potable drinking water since the deep wells are now also under flooded waters. PMMI plans to raise $50,000.00 to fund this project. A fixed potable water system will lessen the incidence of water-borne diseases that have been afflicting the villagers of Tinumigues since 2008. There seems to be no early resolution in the foreseeable future about this flooding problem in Tinumigues and this is why Providence Mabuhay Mission is very determined to do this project of providing a safe and clean source of drinking water for them.
