Louise Meriwether Recovering from Covid Fund

Dear Friends and Family,

Our beloved elder, celebrated author of “Daddy Was A Number Runner”, and veteran in the struggle for social justice, Louise Meriwether is finally back home after contracting COVID in early April. At 97 years of age, Louise fought the good fight and survived a 6 month stay between the hospital and the rehabilitation center. We are happy to report that Louise is back home but the battle to help Louise regain her earlier quality of life is just beginning. We had to enter multiple appeals and win a court hearing in order to get Louise the 24-7 home assistance she now has. 

While Louise’s mind is as sharp as ever, after not receiving any physical therapy at the rehabilitation center, Louise is immobilized and bed-ridden. The path to her even being able to navigate her home in a wheelchair is a tortuous one. The least little movement elicits incredible pain. She is under 24 hour care  provided by her attendants but they are not physical therapists. In order to get her the expert physical therapy that her condition requires, we need to engage the services of a set of practitioners from the outside. In addition, due to her condition  Louise has lost her boarder, who was not only a companion but a needed source of extra monies on a fixed income.

Our goal is to raise $30,000. That will supplement Louise’s fixed income so that her basic needs of health, healing and comfort can be met and so that she can get the urgent physical therapy and geriatric support and other personal needs that she needs to negotiate this tough time. We are trying to raise these funds in the next 30 days so that Louise and  team can make plans for health, healing and well being. 

The prayer circle of light and love organized early on by Louise’s God-daughter Eve Sandler got her through. Now please help us to get her back to the independent, fierce Louise we all know and love.
