Louise Ross House Fire

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
Louise, our mom, suffered a devastating house fire on July 4th. This horrible fire has been deemed a total loss of her home and all of her belongings. She is beyond devastated. If you know her, you know her bubbly personality, her incredible work ethic, and her heart of gold. She started anew in this home a few years ago, investing her life savings. Since moving in she has worked endlessly to improve the property and create a lovely, well-cared for home.

Accordingly to the fire marshal, the working theory on cause of the fire is that a rogue firework from a nearby celebration landed in a woodpile on her property and burned for some time before catching the grass on fire and quickly traveling to the back of the home.

Louise arrived home from her weekly day with her baby granddaughter as the house was burning. She ran to the house and tried, unsuccessfully, to call her cat out of the house. The smoke overwhelmed her and she ran away from the home, fell, and injured her leg. Fire crews arrive within 15min but the house was already destroyed.

Miraculously, after 2 hours of firefighting, the fire crew found her cat, Remy! He had been hiding deep under a bed in a far corner room of the house. He was traumatized, drenched with water, soot, and fire foam, but *alive*. He was rushed to the hospital where he is being treated in an oxygen chamber for a few days.

Louise also went to the ER with her leg and knee injury. She is currently unable to walk or drive and she will be out of work while her leg heals.

Our family and close friends are banding together to help unfurl the enormous mess, file the insurance claim, and figure out how to move forward. Louise will be starting from scratch and will need to replace everything: clothes, furniture, kitchenware, food, electronics, and all home supplies.

The insurance process will take some time but her needs are immediate. We know at a minimum that she will NOT recover lost wages, vet expenses, and medical expenses up to her max out-of-pocket. We are still learning the details of the insurance coverage but based on the information we have collected so far, there is a sizable gap between total insurance coverage and the net expense of debris removal, new permitting, and the actual replacement of the structure.

These costs add up quickly, particularly while she is unable to work. We are hopeful that her network of friends and family can help bridge the financial gap between this unimaginable loss and the insurance coverage. If you prefer to contribute outside of this forum or in another way, please use the "Organizer - Contact" button on this page and we will be in touch asap.

We appreciate all contributions. Also, if you have experienced something similar, we would appreciate any advice or tips as Louise moves through this process.

Thank you so much,
