Dave Wallis funeral Friday 15th May

As most of you are aware that my dad passed away this week from a long battle of Alzheimer’s disease.

Right up until about a year ago, I always spoke to my dad about football because if anyone knew my dad you would have known that there was only ever two things in his life ... that was his family and football. When I lived at home I never had to ask my mum where my dad was because I knew the answer would be down at the football club, his second home.

He made some life long friends at the club and he had lots of good memories of laughter, lads holidays and joking around ( normally at someone else’s expense).

My dad played football from a young age including playing for Merlin sports in his first job to playing for Canvey Vets in his 40’s ( which I remember saying to him “ ain’t you too old to be playing football” I think he was just trying to regain his youth lol). Dad had always been a massive part of the football club, if he wasn’t playing on the pitch he was looking after the pitch. He supported the team at home and away games and always helped out with the team. I saw him work behind the bar and I definitely saw him on the other side of the bar (lol). If something needed doing he would had done it for the club - he loved it.

The football club was a massive part of my dads life and he definitely wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Due to the way the world is at the moment, my dads funeral is limited to immediate family only which is a shame as I know that so many people would had liked to say their good byes.

I have arranged for my dad to go past the football club before we go onto the crematorium so if anyone wanted to say their goodbyes they can ( social distancing applies). We will leave Stibbards at 3:10pm on Friday the 15th.

If you wish to send flowers they can be sent to Stibbards on canvey, I have also set up a “go fund me page” for Alzheimer’s Society so if you would like to donate anything it would be most appreciated.

No one should have to suffer from this horrible disease, let’s help find a cure!

Thanks
