Love 4 Lee: Road to Recovery

My nephew Cristopher Lee Garza is one of the most gracious beings you'll ever meet. His spirit is genuine and infectious, as evident by his many friends of all ages. His empathetic nature and passion for the well-being of others led him to pursue a career of service in the medical field. At 22 years old, his life has just taken flight after recently graduating with a bachelor's in psychology. Only recently, he texted me excitingly that he's studying for his GRE and applying to universities to become a psychologist.

In a moment, everything changed. Lee was in a horrific motor vehicle accident on Saturday that left him fighting for his life. With an aortic rupture, amongst other life-altering injuries, the doctors prepared our family for the worst. Immediately, the devastation and fear overcame us, and we dropped to our knees with pleas to God to save our Lee. Desperately, we contacted family and friends across the country requesting prayers for a miracle. An hour into the surgery, there was still no word from the surgical team, but in our eyes, that was a good sign because an aortic bleed can quickly become fatal. The surgeon eventually emerged and notified the family that the aortic repair was successful but that Lee was still critical and needed to be monitored closely in ICU. It was a miracle! Through our faith, we knew that with God's grace, the combination of prayer, and medical expertise Lee was granted a fighting chance at life.

As mentioned, Lee has extensive internal injuries and continues fighting for survival. Although he's had a warrior spirit since he was a preemie in the NICU, he desperately needs our continued prayers. The outpouring of #Love4Lee has been very humbling to our family, and we appreciate the numerous prayers, well-wishes, and offers of support. We could not do this without you. Lee could not do this without you.

Lee's road to recovery is far from over. To be honest, his condition is still touch and go, so we are focusing on the small blessings daily. We remain faithful to the power of prayer and the medical team's care. Unfortunately, Lee is still not breathing independently, and our family is vigilantly by his side.
