Love for Jennifer and Shon Parker

My beloved sister and brother-in-law gave their hearts and souls to teaching at McNally Smith College of Music. At 5 pm Thursday, December 14, they were sent an email: the school was closing, they would not receive their earned paychecks the next day, and they were asked to work the last five days of the semester for free.

Because they believe in their work, love their students, and are determined to help even as they face their own hardship, they have dedicated these last days to finding housing, transfers, meals and solutions for their students and colleagues. A look at the literally hundreds of comments from students and friends in music is a testament to how many lives they've touched, though they'd not think of it in those terms.  In short, they are thinking of others... so their sisters are thinking of them and their son, Gideon.

We've aimed high here, but we are thinking of all the things we take for granted-- house taxes and payments, cobra insurance, and knowing full well that they will probably have dozens of students they will help... truly, the impact of anything you can give will reach far beyond their family. This is an investment in two people who have invested their lives in others, and would never think of asking for themselves.

If this is not a way you'd want to help, please private message Sarah or Anna or Kate. We also know Jen and Shon appreciate your prayers-- not only for them, but for all affected by this.

Thank you, so much, for your kindness. The world is a better place for it.
