Love for Literacy in SF's Mission District

Tax deductible
What books turned you on to reading?  Mysteries, science, travel to faraway places?  What books helped you learn to read and later read to learn?

St. Peter’s School wants to nurture that love for reading in students, and asks for your help in rebuilding classroom libraries to support student  language development.

According to Mrs. Ria Fresnoza, Director of Academics, “One of the best research-based strategies to improve reading skills is to increase the time students have for independent, free-choice reading in the classroom. Unfortunately, our school library has become out-of-date because our wonderful volunteer librarians retired during COVID. As a result, few books match students' interests or meet their reading levels."

Our goal is to fill classroom libraries, grades K - 8, with literature and nonfiction books that are culturally responsive, leveled for our English language learners (60% of our student body), and engaging for young readers.

A donation of ANY size will help us purchase appropriate books.  We're so grateful that a special donor will match first-time donations to St. Peter's.
