Love for Local - St. John's
Love for Local is a fundraising campaign that was started in Kelowna, British Columbia by Brittney Page and Dani Smith. It is now being expanded to St. John’s, NL.
Goal
Our goal is to help the healthcare professionals who continue to prepare and fight against COVID-19 through the support of local restaurants. Every donation received will go towards the purchase of a gift card from a local restaurant for a healthcare professional. Thanks to The Health Care Foundation, these gift cards will be given to healthcare professionals working directly with COVID-19. Our aim is to reach $3000.00 in GoFundMe donations in St. John’s.
About Us
Brittney Page and Dani Smith were teammates on Canada’s national women’s volleyball team and created this initiative as a way to help healthcare professionals in Kelowna. Becky Winsor is a high school teacher and volleyball coach in St. John’s and was looking for a way to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was inspired by the Love for Local campaign in Kelowna and reached out to Dani and Britt to establish a similar fundraiser in St. John’s.
Mission
The Love For Local initiative is to show our appreciation for the frontline medical professionals facing COVID-19. Local business owners are often the first to be asked to donate, the first to step up, and the first to contribute to community projects. We feel it is our turn to rally around them in their most trying times. Our hope is that both the healthcare professionals and local restaurants feel the love as we all work together to navigate these challenging times. We understand what a difficult time this is for everyone financially and only ask those who are comfortable and able to contribute to consider doing so. There is no minimum amount in this cause and every bit will help!
