WE BEAT GOAL # 1 in UNDER 24 hours!!! LET’S KEEP GOING

Lucas and his family are loved by so many. Thanksgiving took a different path this weekend for the Connor family. Let’s show them all the true spirit of this holiday season as they wade the waters of a battle no child should ever have to fight
COPIED FROM AMBER CONNOR:

This post is a little tough to write. Our worst nightmare as parents has come true in the blink of an eye. There’s been so much that has happened in the last 24 hours and we are still trying to wrap our heads around it.

Lucas has been feeling off for the last month. He tested positive for Strep, and was treated for that, but continued to be tired and nauseous. He missed school a few days, but on Tuesday, he felt better after he had a few popsicles and other foods. He wasn’t his normal self, but seemed to look better. We just thought it was the antibiotics making him sick. We got our Christmas tree on Wednesday as a family, and he was excited to help decorate. We enjoyed Thanksgiving with family in Tomah, and thought he was doing okay.

On Friday morning, he was unresponsive at his great grandparent’s house, so we took him to the ER where he was flown to Madison Children’s Hospital. There, they found mass in his chest that was releasing toxins, causing injury to his kidneys. It also caused a bunch of other complications that they rushed to fix. The doctors suspect this mass is some type of lymphoma.

It took staff a while to get him stable, but he is now doing much better. He is intubated and sedated, but does have periods where he will respond to our voices, open his eyes, squeeze our hands, and we even got a little dance tonight.

They took a biopsy of the mass as well as his bone marrow and we will hopefully know what kind of cancer we are working with and what to do next.

It’s been a very scary and awful time for Mitch, Laura, and I as we watch him connected to all of these tubes and try not to think the worst.

If you pray, please pray like you’ve never prayed before. If you don’t, any positive vibes you can send Lucas’s way would be great.

We want to send a huge thank you already to all of the people who have rallied around our family. The amount of love and support we have received in the last 24 hours has been incredible and we couldn’t do this without our amazing community.

The staff here in Madison are some of the best and we know he’s in great hands. They have been so wonderful in helping us navigate this. From setting us up with a room and food to helping Laura get through this, we are so grateful for them.
