Love For Luke Post Op

Our friend Luke has endured many major brain surgeries and embolizations over the last few years and could use your help!   After suffering a major seizure, Luke was diagnosed with complex tumors that were slowly growing within his brain. Because he has a form of hemophilia, Luke also suffered an impairing stroke during his first life saving craniotomy.  Little did he know that he would return to the operating room 4 more times within 3 years. Luke has been in and out of hospitals, doctors offices, interventional therapist clinics, Intensive Care Units, on and off life saving machines, and has even had a surgery to place a transmitter in his brain to help control his seizures. Having your skull opened for surgeries as many times as he has, takes an awful toll.  He's had to relearn to walk, talk, read and write.  All of his basic life skills had to be relearned and some will never be regained.  His postoperative life consists of severe, intractable pain and emotional distress,  cognitive setbacks that include aphasia and information processing challenges as well as severe memory impairment..plus many negative side effects from the multiple medications Luke relies on daily for survival. 

     Luke's needs are great yet he's unable to provide for himself.  **Multiple pleas and appeals for disability and assistance have all been denied.**  Due to his impairments, Luke is unable to obtain work in any form.  Suggested therapies for Luke's betterment and benefit are unattainable due to his dire financial crisis making his ability to build a sustainable life...impossible.

     The following is a list of necessities and where your contribution is needed most:

*Ketamine infusions at the Ketamine Wellness Institute as recommended by the UNC Pain Management Clinic for complex regional pain syndrome and neuropathic pain 6K
*Vocational training 33K
*Speech therapy, reading and writing specialist TBD
*Memory developing software 2400
*Adaptability devices 700
*Service dog that can detect seizures 20K
*Acupuncture for pain management 2400
*CBD for pain management 1K/yr
*Psychotherapy for individuals with disability 12K/yr

These basic items alone total $77,500.00 and some will be a lifelong expense.

     We're not asking for a "handout" here - just a hand up to help Luke in his time of need.  He's been working very, very hard to overcome huge setbacks and has made some progress, but more intervention is needed for pain management, therapies to regain basic skills, emotional and physical support, doctors visits, prescriptions and other prescribed medical necessities.  His medical bills accumulated over the last few years are astronomical for someone with no means of independent income.   This is where your compassion comes in.  Please consider lifting a portion of Luke's enormously heavy load with your generosity.  Any amount contributed is gratefully appreciated.
