Support "Love Hotel" – A Surrealistic Journey through a convenience store of memories

For a more detailed Document, go to our website

Hello everyone,

I'm thrilled to share my passion project, a short film titled "Love Hotel", and I need your support to make it a reality. This film explores the poignant journey of a young woman named April as she navigates a deeply personal transformation within the confined walls of a love hotel. It's a narrative that delicately balances moments of intimacy and self-discovery, aiming to resonate universally.

Our team is ready to embark on this journey, and with your help, we can bring this story to life. The funds raised will cover the essential costs of production, including equipment, locations, and other critical elements. We have already assembled a talented crew, including a Director of Photography, Assistant Director, Production Designer, and Editor, all set to shoot this October. We are committed to shooting in a unique location outside of Paris, believing this will enhance the film's authentic feel.

A fatalistic meeting between April and Ahmed in a deserted convenience store leads them into a surreal journey at a love hotel, where exploring physical intimacy unlocks deep-seated memories and fears, compelling Ahmed to confront the superficiality of losing one's virginity and the complexities of human connection.

A large influence on this film is the Asian films of the late 90s and early 2000s. It was a period in Japanese cinema especially when Digital film looked very different because independent filmmakers like Ryuichi Hiroki and Shunji Iwai were shooting films on their own disregarding all the traditional norms and embracing a different form of freestyle than what Godard did during the new wave. In Wong Kar-wai’s films, there is a fatalistic quality to the storytelling. It’s predictable (a word I don’t like in filmmaking, It’s an audience word) yet compelling. That was the problem I faced while writing Love Hotel – How to make the Hotel seem like it is being manifested by the will of these two people and that they themselves don’t know where they are going. This was achieved by the surrealism which had another problem with it. I wanted it to be based in reality rather than making it seem like I want to really tell something contextual. Impressionism is what came to my mind then. Two colors put close enough but separated by a blank canvas can result in a third color in one’s brain and somehow that seems more organic since we interpret colors as data in human minds.

Here's some films I have been inspired by:

Long Day’s Journey into the Night (2018) - For its hypnotic quality and night scenes.

Vibrator (2003) - Inspired the film's opening shot and handheld camera style.

Maborosi (1995) - For the use of natural light and atmospheric storytelling.

Chungking Express (1994), Fallen Angels (1995), Days of being Wild (1990) - Influenced the color scheme and visual style.

On the Beach at Night Alone(2017) - Inspired the film's dialogue and framing techniques.

In "Love Hotel," I aim to explore the notion of virginity and the deeper aspects of self-awareness and human connection. The film draws heavily from Asian cinema of the late 90s and early 2000s, with a focus on raw, freestyle filmmaking. The characters, April and Ahmed, are complex reflections of my own experiences and observations, portraying the dichotomy of innocence and introspection.
