Hi there,
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Megan. On the 14th of November 2018, I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl, Layla at Wishaw General Hospital.
My baby girl was only 22 weeks and 6 days old, Layla also had a condition called exomphalos major and sadly didn’t make it in the end. However, Layla DID have life - a whole 5 and a half hours, this being due to the amazing strength she had and also to the NICU staff at Wishaw General hospital, who were amazing and did all they could for our baby girl and to that we will be forever grateful.
After our baby girl passed, we got to spend time with her, which to this day has helped ease our pain. We got to hold our baby girl, sing to her, bathe her, dress her and most importantly let her know how loved she is - things that we would have did if Layla had made it in this world, this was all thanks to midwifes at the hospital who helped throughout, we are forever grateful for everything you have did for us.
Staff at the hospital allowed us to stay at the hospital, for as long as we needed, to be with Layla. They provided Layla with a “Cuddlecot”, a cot which cooled Layla’s body and therefore prolonged the amount of time we got to spend with her. This was so comforting for us as we got to remember our little girl how she was when she was born.
The purpose of this page is to give a little something back to the staff at Wishaw General hospital for the remarkable job they do and to let them know that they are recognised. Wishaw Generals neonatal unit provides comprehensive care for critically ill term and premature babies, including intensive care, high dependency, special care and out patient consultation. The money raised will go to the NICU unit to help with their funding and also to the neonatal ward to help buy some extras which will ensure babies and their families are as comfortable as possible during their stay.
We will forever be grateful to the staff and I know Layla would be too.
Thanks so much for taking time to read and every little helps.
