While in the E.R. and hospital room, she did not shed a tear for herself. She acknowledged that her sight and brain were forever changed and pushed on like a champ. Hats off to you Marcie!
****
Yes, there were tears of anger and frustration because she was fighting the doctors “opinion” that her issues were the side affects of a migraine headache rather than a stroke. Her story is insanely unbelievable. Instead of getting medications that she needed, she had to argue with a very pomp-ass E.R. doctor and missed the time window to receive said medications. With BOTH strokes!
STROKE #1:
Friday, September 20th,
Marcie had and extreme headache and sight problems, much worse than a migraine, and numbing on the right side of her body. (Not all strokes are on the left side)
She went into the Emergency Room and was sent home with a diagnosis of a migraine. She texted me about the situation and I knew it was more than a migraine just by looking at her texts. Normally, her texts are well written with punctuation and all. This text was fumbled spelling and hard to read.
Saturday, September 21,
Same symptoms but MUCH worse. Complete numbing of the right side of her body. This time Marcie called the ambulance.
As she was being checked out in her front yard, Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Ambulance medics) decided that it was a migraine and treated Marcie as if she was simply seeking drugs.
They casually drove Marcie to the E.R., at 25 mph, and were actually cracking jokes all the way. Meanwhile… Marcie is in tears saying: “This is more than a migraine, I think it’s a stroke”. All she could do is lay still and silent as tears ran down her cheeks…. As the ambulance slowly strolls to the E.R. with the medics laughing, Marcie’s life is flashing before her. I could only imagine how isolated and fearful she felt at that moment. God bless you Marcie.
And the fun does not stop here!
Once she got to the E.R… In comes the Pomp-ass doctor. Arguing with Marcie that it was a migraine… Not a stroke. Mind you, Marcie is going to Nursing school and happens to know what shes talking about. This went on for quite a while.
FINALLY!… A SAVING GRACE!… A nurse, bless her soul, was talking to Marcie and decided to hit the “CODE STROKE”.
A little humorous side note!: If you know Marcie, you know how caring she is. When Marcie heard “CODE STROKE”, she thought it was for someone else. She apologized to the nurse. Saying “I know you're busy and now someone is having a stroke” (Mind you, Marcie is not thinking well)
The Nurse replied: “Darling, that's for you.” Once again, God bless this nurse for going over doctors orders and claiming “CODE STROKE”
Meanwhile, with all of this wasted time since the day before and the tests she was finally given, waiting for results and moved to a room, the time frame for stroke medication was missed. Too late.
Marcie was sent home a couple days later. Strict instructions, yada yada.
STROKE #2
Friday, September 27th.
Same symptoms… ambulance ride, 25 mph, same hospital…. saw the same pomp-ass doctor… sent home with migraine diagnoses.
Yes, he was told numerous times that she had a stroke one week prior... annnnnnnnd nothing. Just attitude from the doctor who was treating her as is she was there for drugs.
Another point to bring up… Marcie can get pain meds any time she wants from her doctor. She has sciatica injury and rarely takes anything for it. She has proven to her doctor that she is not a pain med fan. She hates the side effects.
Saturday, September 28th:
I got home from work at 6pm and called Marcie to check up on her. She could barely talk because of the pain. Fortunately I live close by and drove right over.
After sitting with her for about 10 minutes, she got light headed and started to pass out.
!! 911 !!
I told both the dispatcher and the medics that if they treat this as a migraine, they will see a new definition of conniption. I, for some reason!, felt I had to push the need for urgency. (eye roll)
Guess what happened… migraine, 25 mph ride in ambulance, zero urgency. (I seriously cant make this stuff up!)
This time My Brother, my Son, and I were there in the E.R. with Marcie. About 5 hours to be exact. (God… I’m getting pissed typing this!) Anyone want to take a guess on the diagnosis?
Anyone?
Awwww… come on! Take a wild guess…
Correct! Diagnosis is a migraine!!!
This time were going to call it a COMPLEX MIGRAINE!
Not only that, but the doctor was actually getting short with us while we PLEADED that it was a stroke.
Somehow my Brother talked the doctor into another MRI so we could compare LAST WEEKS MRI.
Long story short… After the results came back, they insisted it was a complex migraine. And they wanted to keep Marcie overnight to observe.
By this time, Marcie was exhausted completely. But she was still fighting. (All while trying to keep calm because, well…. STROKE!)
So we left and let Marcie get situated in her room in hopes she would get some sleep. We knew the time frame for the medication has long passed and nothing could be done at the moment.
The next morning the nurse was treating Marcie for migraine and pushing meds that Marcie refused. Thank God she refused those meds as they would have made Marcie worse as it wasn't a migraine.
Finally a new Doctor came in with both of her MRI results and agreed that it was definitely a stroke. Marcie overheard him reprimanding the nurse.
“Heaven let your light shine down!”
There is so much more to this story. I just gave the basics.
These strokes that Marcie had are rare.
Occipital Lobe Stroke
Affecting vision and reading comprehension.
And recovery is rare.
But Marcie is a fighter and will be the one to bust the odds against her!
But the road to recovery is going to be long.
She is facing Schooling loans, car and house loans, along with every day bills.
Yet she is unable to work.
She’s about 2/3 blind.
Driving is out of the question.
Who knows what the future holds for her.
I’m begging you to consider donating any amount you are able.
Every bit helps.
Marcie is afraid to look at this fund in belief that she might jinx it! Lol!
Let’s try to build it up and give her a blessing that she very well deserves.
She is a beautiful soul that would bend over backwards for anyone. (Or at least, talk their ear off!!)
And for all of the times she did help people, lets return the favor.
If you can’t afford anything, please share. And share OFTEN!
Thank you for your time.
