Love Over Hate - Restore Hope for a Muslim Family

tl/dr: U.S. Muslim family targeted and losses everything

A Muslim family of 4 in the U.S. has been targeted and left with nothing. This family is part of my chosen family. They are the best of people. When neighbors need help, they are the first there and last to leave. During disasters I’ve personally witnessed them making sure that the elderly of the community are cared for. And not just those of their religion, ANYONE.

Last week they were moving onto the next phase of their lives. The children were thriving and the family had just relocated to a new community. A “friend” gave them access to housing and they moved all their belongings into the new space. They signed a lease. They began transferring utilities. As they were doing this, they were completing a project several hours away and stayed away overnight.

When they returned to their new home, they found that the home had been broken into and EVERYTHING of theirs was gone. When I say everything, I mean it. Since they hadn’t yet unpacked it was easy for the thieves to remove all their belongings. Clothing, furniture, jewelry, childhood keepsakes such as their children’s footprints and most sacred of all, the ashes of a beloved grandparent. EVERYTHING gone.

This isn’t the first time this family has been targeted because of their Muslim faith and brown skin. They have faced ridicule, threats, and hatred over and over again. But this time it’s different. We found out they were set up for this theft. And the people setting them up not only took everything, they took their employment and housing security. This family is self-employed and the thieves took every piece of work tools and equipment. They have no way to earn a living and have been threatened with CPS involvement since they now have nowhere to stay. All this was planned and executed to do the most damage to this Muslim family. We will not let it happen.

No one can replace those beloved family treasures. But we as a community can replace the rest and give this family the security they deserve. Let’s show the racists and bigots that their hatred can never win. Give, share, like and publicize in all your networks. Let’s show this family what we can do with LOVE!
