Appendix Cancer Stage 4-Help Brenda Lightfoot

Donation protected
Brenda has always been there for everyone else, now its time to show our love and support for her and her sons as she goes through cancer treatments.

Bren was having pain in her stomach, bloating and back pain. She finally went to the Emergency Room on the third day of pain.  She was sent down for a Cat Scan thinking maybe it was a kidney stone. It ended up being a tumor the close to the size of a football on her right ovary. The following Monday she followed up with her Doctors office and was told that her blood work had come back. Her CA-125 was 509, normal range is 0-35. She then went to see Dr. Michelin at the Cowell Cancer Center at Munson Hospital in Traverse City. He’s a Gynecologic Oncologist and one of the best Ovarian Cancer Surgeons.

He wanted to get the surgery scheduled the next day, but due to scheduling the earliest Bren could get in was October 29th. He did not want to wait even longer for a biopsy to come back so he scheduled the surgery to remove the tumor and also do a full hysterectomy. He was confident he could get the cancer and put in a chemotherapy port if needed at the time of surgery.

Bren had the surgery and it ended up being a rare  Stage 4  Appendix Cancer  with only 1 case per 100,000 and it had metastasized to her uterus, ovaries and Fallopian tubes. Brenda’s type of Appendix cancer is even rarer. Goblet Cell Appendix Caner only occurs 1 in 2 million cases.  The Surgeon removed the appendix, the tumor and did the full hysterectomy.

Unfortunately this type of Appendix cancer, produces a jelly like substance that cannot be removed with a scalpel. So several biopsies were taken and Bren is going down to a hospital in Detroit to see  an  Oncologist surgeon who specializes in Appendix Cancer.

In November the new surgeon, Dr. Richard Berry is going to do a fairly new chemotherapy and surgery on Bren. Since it’s an advanced -stage appendix cancer, liquid chemo for gel like Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) will be done.  If the biopsies show the cancer has metastasized even further, he will remove those cancer tumors and begin administering the heated, sterilized chemotherapy solution . It is delivered to the abdomen to penetrate and destroy remaining cancer cells. The solution is 41 to 42 degrees Celsius, about the temperature of a warm bath. It’s circulated throughout the abdomen for approximately 1 ½ hours. The solution is then drained from the abdomen and the incision is closed.  This will destroy the cancer cells in the stomach and stomach lining.

We are all trying to stay positive and praying for Brenda and her two young sons.  This is going to affect Brenda and her sons, emotionally, physically and financially. She will be out of work to recover after these surgeries and it is unknown at this time what other treatments along with chemo therapy she will have.

Brenda is a single Mom to two boys and is worried about them and how they will handle this. She is staying strong for them and is going to stay positive and beat this.

If you can please. consider donating to Brenda, so she can concentrate on her cancer treatments, healing and time with her boys instead of stressing about living expenses.

Above all, I’m asking for prayers for Brenda, her sons and family during this difficult time.

I wil keep everyone updated as Bren goes through her surgery and treatments.
Please share this with family and friends.

Thank you,
Arrielle Monroe

Brenda went to see Dr. Michelin on November 13 and found that her Appendix Cancer Is stage four! The   pathology report showed That as we know the cancer Started in the appendix and went to the ovaries Fallopian tubes cervix and uterus. As you know Brenda had a full hysterectomy and now he is have to deal with the cancer tumors that were jelly like and the surgeon could not get. She will be seeing Dr. Richard Berri at St. John’s Providence Hospital in Grosse Point Michigan.  After her consultation she will be hopefully going forward to do the HIPEC Procedure as soon as possible.  Brenda has a long  road of treatments and healing ahead of her. Thank you for your donations, thoughts and prayers for Brenda and her sons!

All of the future updates will be done by Brenda if its possible or I will transcribe for her. Thank you all and God Bless You.
