Lovebug and Duncan's Medical Crises
Donation protected
On the evening of August 6th, 2024, our dog Duncan (7y/o) started having GI issues that were not necessarily abnormal for him. None the less, we contacted the vet and had and appointment set for him the next morning at 9 am. Then, overnight his condition declined rapidly. We admitted him to after-hours care at 4am, and despite their aggressive treatments and care, he passed away on August 7th at 1pm. It was a horrible loss, and there was no "smoking gun" to point to of where his condition (acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome or AHDA) came from.
Now, 5 weeks later, our other dog, Lovebug (12 y/o) has contracted the same illness. We acted immediately and got her hospitalized to receive care before she progressed too far, and will be under 24 hour care for days and she's not out of the woods yet.
Our love for our dogs outweighs the risk of debt. They're our family, and we knew what we were getting into. But with both of them occurring back-to-back, this is set to devastate us financially. Overnight hospitalizations are very expensive, and the tally for both of them has us staring down a terrifying minimum balance of $8000 and Lovebug (as of posting) is still in the hospital, and that number could easily get higher.
We understand the hardships we are all facing in these times. The cost of living is so high that many people struggle to just make ends meet. We understand because we are one of those households. But if you can find it in your financial space and hearts to help us and everyone's favorite dog, Lovebug, it would mean the world to us.
Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts.
Lovebug, Karen, Scott, & Devlin.
