Help Me Buy a House
Donation protected
I am asking for the bare minimum to make sure I can inspect and make a downpayment on my house. Can you help?
The summary (more details below):
- My landlord wants to sell the house I live in
- I want to keep the house, so I have asked to buy it
- The landlord is prioritizing selling to me before putting it on the market
- I have excellent credit, but little income
- Between the four of us who live in the house, we can more than cover a mortgage payment
- As a household we have a vision of making the house a dedicated space for spiritual practice and healing
Why should you help?
I am hoping that you will resonate with one of the two following reasons:
1. You care about me or you care about the idea of a low income person being able to buy a home. (I am a first-time home buyer)
2. You care about the idea of cooperative living that is committed to the idea of community healing & spiritual practice.
What's in it for you?
If you donate, you will be forever welcome to all house gatherings and welcomed as part of the community that we are building.
More details about the finances:
The asking price for the house is around $70,000. With my credit, I will be able to get a mortgage for more than this amount, but I need to show the bank that I have something to offer. $1000 is the bare minimum I must have in hand to make a good faith effort as a first-time home buyer. (The extra $500 is to cover estimated GoFundMe fees and the cost of a home inspection).
I live with three other people, we all collectively pay more than enough rent to cover even a high mortgage payment --so the transition should be seamless.
I am currently saving every penny in an effort to raise even more for down payment and closing costs.
September:
The landlord would like to sell the house by the end of the year. Thus, I would like to start the buying process in September (buying a house can take up to two months). Having $1000 in hand by September 15 will greatly aid the completion of this transaction before January 2017.
More details about a healing household:
All four of us who live in the house, and the current owner (whom I hope to buy from), are dedicated spiritual practitioners of varying traditions. In addition, all of us work in some healing modality in our daily lives, including: mental health care, meditation, yoga, herbalism and end of life care.
We have a vision for the house to be a place for dedicated spiritual practitioners and healers to live and we intend to have regular gatherings and workshops at the house that are geared toward personal healing and growth.
We would like this house to be of benefit to all those who visit it, and it is our hope that this benefit will ripple outward to the greater Pittsburgh community.
Our gratitude:
While I am buying the house alone, I am buying it with a collective vision in mind. Your support will enable all four of the house's current residents to keep their home. It will also plant the seeds of community. Your donation will be in support of a house that will be of benefit to others. And for that we are all incredibly grateful. We will pay it forward with vigor and love.
