A Little History:
Igor and his 3 brothers came from Russia to this country when he was 11, when his parents were killed. It wasn't long after that their Grandmother passed away and they had to be placed into the system because their Grandfather could not take care of them alone. In a system that is already strained, being asked to find a good home for 4 young boys that want to stay together, made growing up fast not an option. Before Igor would turn 17 he would be in 3 different homes. Always praying this one would be the one that would love them, want them, and embrace them into their family unit. Finally it did happen, but not through the system though. It was in a man he met one day, we'll call him Bob. In this man, Igor found a friend, confidant and someone that truly loved him and his brothers. They weren't quite old enough to get out of the system legally but it didn't matter to these brothers that were now teenagers. One by one they left the system.
In 2008 Igor and, my daughter, Katie met and later married. We saw over the years of their marriage that Igor was a faithful, hard-working husband and a great father as well to Marcus, our grandson, once he came along. They both always had a heart for dogs. Katie always had a dream of having a dog farm and Igor worked hard to give her something close to it. They have 6 Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs each ranging from 90-125 lbs, Tizzy (Boo Boo), Beast, Hulk, Cujo, Chloe, and Ziggy.
Everyone that knew Igor knew he had a big heart! He was a giver and would help anyone that needed it.
Igor is a biker. He loves to ride. His first one was a crotch rocket, had a Harley, then this last one, a Honda. It was on that one Friday, July 21st, 2023 around 4 pm, that he and a SUV hit head on.
Here is where I get to the part in his life for which you're reading this story.
The Accident.
A couple, who are a God send and we'll all be forever grateful for, heard the impact and ran outside phone in hand. They knew what had happened as it has happened many times before in front of their home. They told us that as they were running to the scene they knew it was bad. They saw an SUV with the engine almost ripped out, and what appears to be a motorcycle partially under the front, and what looked like a lifeless body laying in front of both. When they got to Igor he wasn't breathing and informed the 911 operator. They were advised to take off the shield on the helmet without moving him. As they did Igor took a big gasp of breath.
Igor's Injuries.
He was immediately taken to a trauma unit and his injuries were as follows: fractured skull, scattered brain hemorrhaging, unstable spine due to ligaments on the side of his upper spine torn apart, C1 and C2 fracture in the neck, left femur broken/separated, left tibia/fibula broken, both ankles sprained, right hip broken with femur-head shattered with bone protruding through, multiple rib fractures on both sides, left arm broken, the lower part of his right lung collapsed needing a chest tube inserted, lacerations to his spleen and grade 2 liver lacerations. Needless to say, for 5 days being in a drug-induced coma on a ventilator, were filled with many surgeries, and procedures. He has plates in his neck keeping his spine intact, a metal rod down his left leg, a metal rod in his left arm, and a full hip replacement to the right hip. Now, 13 days in the hospital, hes battling a bacterial infection that has caused pretty severe fevers and low hemoglobin levels. With the trauma to the brain it has made the things we do every day without even thinking about it very difficult for him. He's confused with reality, dreams and some times hallucinations and he struggles remembering things.
The Revelation.
Even with all of this I thought, we can do this! As a family we will pull together as we always do and take care of our own. That thinking changed when the orthopedist surgeon told us that for full mobility recovery, if all goes perfectly well, we could be looking at two years. Two years!
Two years of therapists, learning how to move his head again, how to walk again, how to use his arms again, two years of possibly more surgeries, two years regaining old memories. two years of still needing their home, two years of needing their car, two years still providing for his wife and son. Two Years!
I AM REACHING OUT!
It was EXACTLY at that moment I knew we needed to reach out. Reach out to our neighbors, our community and just as far as we can to ask for help for this dear sweet family.
Reaching out to Igor's riding friends and buddies, to his community, to his neighbors, and to his country to show this young husband, father and citizen of our great nation that this time, WE'VE GOT HIM.
If you're able to give financially, we thank you! If you're unable, we understand, and ask for your prayers. All are GREATLY APPRECIATED!
PLEASE tell Igors story and SHARE this request. I want you to be assured that all money raised will be used wisely and ONLY for the bazelyuk famiy.
God Bless you All,
Lori Stapp
