Dear friends who are family, and family who are friends:
This campaign is for the benefit of Olivia Blevins Powell, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Olivia is a wife, mother, sister, daughter, elementary school music teacher, a friend, and beautiful soul.
This year she will have been married to her loving and devoted husband, Kevin Powell, for 20 years! Their intelligent, hardworking, and very kind son, Garrett Powell, is a junior in high school and preparing for college. While NO time is a good time to be diagnosed with cancer, the discovery of Olivia’s cancer has come at a pivotal time in their family’s life emotionally, and undeniably, financially. The costs of the initial diagnostic tests, as well as the cost of treatment to destroy and defeat this cancer are extremely high. Even with her health insurance as a Texas public school teacher, the out of pocket expense is burdensome.
Olivia is a music teacher and has taught for almost 20 years. She has touched the lives of countless students and colleagues in multiple school districts throughout her career. Her passion as a teacher of music transcends well beyond the rudimentary aspects and standards set by the state of Texas. It may not be widely known, but elementary music teachers are part of a small group that set the “tone” for the culture of an entire school. All educators are important and vital team members, but only a few teachers in an elementary school teach every single student on campus. Olivia strives (and succeeds) to connect with each and every student on an individual and personal level. That’s not just her as a teacher, that is who Olivia is in the very core of her soul.
Olivia’s love of life, her genuine care for all people - family, friends, and even strangers, her ability to remain optimistic through the toughest of challenges, her cheerful disposition regardless of circumstance, her immense strength while maintaining a sensitive nature, her gift of empathy, and loyal devotion are only some of the reasons she is loved by so many people.
If you are able and feel compelled to donate, ANY monetary amount you can contribute will help tremendously!!! Other ways you can help is to share this campaign on your social media, and to send any words of encouragement you can to our “Livy,” her name to most everyone who knows her.
