In Loving Memory of Our Dad: John Paul Somers, known as "Seano" – We are Seeking Support During a Very Difficult Time.

Dear Friends, Family, and compassionate community of Merimbula, Gold Coast, Australia, and Ireland,

We are heartbroken to share the unexpected passing of our beloved dad this past Monday night. He died suddenly in his sleep, and while we are still coming to terms with this shocking loss, it has left us grappling with a profound emotional void.

Just a few weeks ago, we enjoyed a joyful catch-up on the phone where he expressed so much pride in my new job and shared his unwavering love for us, and looked forward to finally meeting his grandchildren. Our dad was a larger-than-life figure—a true lion heart born in Dublin. His spirit touched many lives in our community and around the world, as he dedicated himself to helping others with kindness and generosity. He worked hard all his life and did so many love jobs just to see people smile and not struggling.
Somce his passing Many have shared that because of my dad they are still here today. Including Myself.
He was a strong kind wise soul that warmed hearts he met . He also had healing hands.

Upon arriving in Merimbula to handle his affairs, we discovered that he hadn’t been as well as he let on and also struggled financially. His pride kept him from sharing his struggles with us, and this revelation has added to the weight of our grief. The journey we are on now has been overwhelming with dad not leaving a Wil or any savings—navigating not just our emotions but also the practicalities of unexpected expenses related to moving him out and cleaning his unit that he rented for 10 years and other arrangements financially that are burdening us.

We also want to share about our dad’s beloved dog that was left behind, Morky. Morky not only provided Dad with companionship and joy, but he also became a pivotal part of dads live"his best mate" . Just as Morky alerted a loving neighbour after Dad's passing, on our arrival he also led us to a place of solace where Dad finally left his body next to his bed . It feels right that Morky remains close here in Merimbula, where he can still feel Dad’s presence around him. We are hoping to find a loving new home for Morky within the Merimbula community, where Dad lived and where Morky loved to wander around. We believe that someone within this caring community can provide him with the love and attention he deserves just like dad did. If anyone feels moved to take in Morky in honour of Dad, we know in our hearts that this is what he would want.

During this challenging time, my brother and I are reaching out for help. It’s difficult to ask for assistance, especially when our dad was always the one lending a hand to others. However, we find ourselves in need of support, and any contribution, big or small, would make a significant difference for us as we honour his memory and navigate this transition.

If you are in a position to donate, we would be incredibly grateful. Your kindness would provide us some relief during this tough time and help us cover the unexpected expenses we are facing.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your love and support mean the world to us as we remember our dad and celebrate the beautiful life he lived.

With so much gratitude,
His Loving Sons,
Karl & Scott Somers
