Lovrick Needs A Trombone

Donation protected
I was introduced to Lovrick in Spring 2014 by his high school classmate Jahleel Smith - my bass trombone student who is now attending the Curtis Institute of Music. Jahleel was completely honest with me in telling me that not only did I need to meet Lovrick and hear him play, but he probably won't be able to afford to study with me.

Lovrick played a Rochut and Arbans for me - it was rough, but he was easy to teach and showed me how quickly he could fix things. I told him that I was willing to lower my rate for a few lessons if he was willing to put in the work. The next 5 lessons were exponentially better, but then he had to cancel because he couldn't come up with the money that week. I saw him a month later, he sounded amazing, but he didn't know when he could see me next because of money. I let him know that if he continued on this path with this dedication, he doesn't owe me for lessons anymore.

I never really learned his whole story, but I knew he sounded incredible and something special.

His Whole Story
Lovrick attends Tri-Cities High School, a Title I school in East Point, GA with only a 58% graduation rate among male students. He currently has a 3.3GPA, is on the honor roll, and is on track to being a Georgia Hope Scholarship recipient. He grew up in Boston with his single mom and older brother and they moved to Atlanta in hopes of a lower cost of living. He started playing tenor trombone in the 6th grade and switched to bass trombone his sophomore year - the year I met him. His mother has reached out to her network in the hopes of helping to provide him with an instrument, with no success. He forgoes lunch to practice trombone.

Now
Lovrick is now in his Senior Year of High School and excited to persue Trombone Performance in College. He won the audition for bass trombone in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, is a member of the Atlanta Symphony's Talent Development Program, and was 1st chair in last year's honor band. He receives free lessons with Brian Hecht (bass trombone, ASO) and Myself. He has most of the tools needed for success against all odds.

What Lovrick does not have is a trombone.

It is my hope the trombone community, orchestra community, and the Atlanta community will join me in providing Lovrick with the final tool to his success.

If we exceed the amount necessary for the new trombone and case, I will put it towards a scholarship for him.
