On May 14, 20018 Shermika was rushed to the emergency room where she was diagnosed with Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome which caused blood clots in her lower body. The blood clots caused Shermika to loose her lower bows and colon. The clots started in her leg which caused her foot to go cold and she lost feeling. Afterwards the blood clots traveled to her stomach and destroyed her lower bows sending her into emergency surgery. Shermika was then put on blood thinners to help control and prevent new clots from forming. Doctors also had to insert a central line to allow concentrated solutions to be infused with less risk of complications. It permits monitoring of special blood pressures including the central venous pressure, the pulmonary artery pressure, and the pulmonary capillary wedge pressures. Friday June 1, 2018 the blood clots developed again but this time in her colon causing her colon to fail sending her back into emergency surgery. Shermika was also diagnosed with Short Gut Syndrome due to them having to take out majority of her intestines. With the Short Gut Syndrome Shermika will remain on blood thinners and once healthy enough to be released she will go home with TPN shots which will allow fluids to be given into the vein to provide most of the essential nutrients her body needs. She will have to go through physical therapy to regain her strength to allow her to walk again. Shermika will also have a home-health company to come out to help change her dressings and drain her stomach through her tube if she feels nauseous instead of her throwing up. Shermika was also placed on a list for a lower intestine transplant which can take up to 12 months before she can receive it. With her going home on the TPN shots it gives her stability to be eat and receive nutrients helping her sustain her condition until the transplant.
Shermika is currently still hospitalized and under close watch to ensure her condition gets better and not worse. Shermika is very independent dedicated a hard worker and pays her own bills. She is always there to lend a helping hand in every way possible. She was never sick with this devastating tragedy she is forced to stop working and change her life drastically. Its devastating to see Shermika go from happy helpful and vibrant to sick and demobilized. She also now suffers from short term memory lost. She is very prideful and took allot for her to allow us to help her. Even sick in the hospital she stills calls to see if we need anything. We have a long road to recovery doctors estimate 8 to 10 months before she can eat solid foods & get back to being her regular vibrant self. If you are willing to help all is appreciated and will help Shermika get back on her feet and pay medical bills until she is able to get back to her normal life. We thank you all in advance and continue praying Shermika has a healthy and successful recovery.
