Lower Mainland Land Defence Fund

Raising money to support the lighting of ceremonial fires to protect the land and the people.
This fund supports ongoing land defence in the Unceded Traditional Territories of the Coast Salish Peoples including, the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Nation), and S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō Nation). The money raised goes to support the efforts of a group of people who engage in ceremony and resistance.
You’ve seen the fire at blockades, direct actions, tent communities, and other places people gather. The fire is led by Indigenous youth and elders, and engages community members around land defence.
By holding space and taking direct actions to defend land, water, and human health around the Salish Sea, the fire demonstrates our obligations to the land and to ensuring the laws of the Coast Salish Peoples are upheld. The fire is lit to say NO! to destructive colonial resource extraction projects. The fire is lit in prayer and resistance.
It takes resources to keep The fire going. Food and drinks are shared to keep people sustained. Chairs, tables and canopies are provided to keep people comfortable. Firewood is gathered and transported to fuel the fire. Supplies are need to create banners and visuals. Tobacco and cloth are purchased and brought to the fire to offer prayers for the people and the land.
