LOYAL - Community Short Film

Donation protected
Hi everyone! We are Sara Chia-Jewell and Antonis Papamichael, the directors of LOYAL.

We only have until the 21st December 2023 to raise this amount for the film to happen. Please help us independent artists!

LOYAL is a short comedy about coffee and community told through a migrant lens. We've been commissioned by Talkies Community Cinema to bring this idea to life! Talkies is a Not-for-profit organisation that helps bring North London communities together through cinema & the arts.

We are looking to film LOYAL over 2 days in January 2024 in the Palmers Green area. The film will be an estimated 8-minutes and completed by March 2024 for a community screening in the local area.

WHY THIS FILM?
In a time where conversations around migrants and displaced individuals are so prevalent, LOYAL will focus on North London and shine a light on the different migrant communities who call London home. This will all be done through the best lens - the comedy lens - as we believe laughter brings us together! We will bring the importance and heart of community to screen, how compassion brings us together, even in small ways like drawing a heart on your latte.

SYNOPSIS
Arlo, a British Chinese woman, gets her coffee every morning from her local cafe. She is always served by Eleni, an older Greek waitress.

One morning, with a fully stamped loyalty card, Arlo goes to claim her free coffee. However, the cafe is unexpectedly busy and she’s already late for work. Arlo decides to grab a coffee elsewhere. New coffee in hand - Arlo passes Eleni - who notices the different cup - it’s a very, VERY. Awkward. Moment.

A romantic montage as Arlo reminisces on the good times had with Eleni in the cafe. Upon arriving at her work in a dry cleaners, Arlo is startled by Burak (her boss) and knocks the coffee over a pile of clean white laundry. As the cup falls in slow motion - Eleni magically appears and saves the day, jumping to protect the clean sheets and taking the hit from the coffee herself.

IMPACT PRODUCTION
The film is told through a migrant lens which is integral beyond the story. We are in conversation with Compass Collective - a charity supporting the integration of young refugees in the UK through the arts - to create opportunities throughout production. We will also engage with the local North London community, with help from Talkies, to bring the migrant community together through this film.

REWARDS
We appreciate all donations of any amounts, no amount is too little.

For individuals who are in a position to donate the following amounts, we have these exciting rewards:
£100 - You get a copy of the Script!
£500 - You receive a Special Thanks credit in the film!

WHY DONATE?
We are so grateful for any help with donations you are able to provide!

This is a community driven film and we need your support to compensate individuals for their time and skills. To pay for food, travel, equipment rentals and insurance. With your help, this shoot will be an opportunity for everyone involved to further their craft, and to engage a migrant community with the arts.

This film reflects the diversity and communities present in London. We’re stronger together, and we want to show this through a heartwarming comedy, for us to laugh together.

Any and all donations will go such a long way in making this film a reality, please consider donating and supporting our journey.

Thank you,
The LOYAL team ♥
