Liam needs a wheelchair van
Donation protected
Liam is an amazing teenager with an incredible spirit. Liam is now 14 years old, well beyond his life expectancy. He was born by emergency C-section when his mother, Deborah, was 7 months pregnant and his heart stopped in-utro.
Liam was non-responsive and the plan was to take him of life support after his grandparents travelled the 10 hour trip to meet him.
Liam had other ideas - he woke up!
Liam's medical team no longer talks about life expectancy as he continues to exceed all predictions. He has cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, visual and hearing impairments and has faced a number of hospital trips in the last 12 months due to some health issues.
Liam has a most infectios laugh, an innate trust, a loving heart and a fighting spirit. He is non-verbal and dependent on others for all of his needs and requires someone close by 24/7 to keep him safe.
As Liam continues to grow and add inches to his length and lbs to his weight, it is becoming harder and harder to lift him in and out of his wheelchair into his special car seat, let alone lift his 75 lbs wheelchair into the back of the van. His single mother works 0.75 time with a fantastic group of people. However, funding a wheelchair accessible van is not something she is able to do on her own. As of this time $39,000 has been pledged towards the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van by several service clubs and charitable organizations and associations. The most recent quote for the wheelchair accessible van best suited to the family's needs is just shy of $70,000.
A wheelchair accessible van would ensure that Liam could continue to enjoy trips to the library, the symphony, the park, the mall and family holidays.
Your support is greatly appreciated and all gifts (whatever amount) are most welcome.
