Less than one week ago, doctors told William, there is nothing more that they can do for him... WE DISAGREE!!!
My Nephew William Melia has been fighting Osteosarcoma for 4 1/2 years. Two months ago, he underwent radiation. The radiation made him very weak. At home, he lay in bed each day in agony. He did not want to go to the hospital, he thought if he did, they would keep him there. Going there would take him away from his friends, his plans to go see the Rex Sox at Fenway, his car and his music.
Two and a half weeks he fought to stay out of the hospital until one morning, defeated, he knew, he had to go in. William arrived at the hospital and insisted on a full body scan. He didn’t want to waste any time, with the doctors plan (scan was a few weeks away), he had a plan of his own, put it all on the table, and so they did.
Doctor explained to William, the cancer changed. He was ready to hear their new game plan, to address the change. What he was not ready to hear was that they did not have one. They told him, there was nothing they could do. They suggested to make him comfortable, and after the tears and devastation and shock and fear and turmoil, that this Brave 17 year old endured, he rose up from the despair and suggested to us, Find Another Way.
William is driven, His Spirit is Strong and not fighting is NOT an OPTION. He taughtus,"Where there is a Will, there is a way", and we found one!!!
