Lucas White’s eye surgery
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
I’m starting this gofundme on behalf of my best friend Krystle, her husband William, and their son Lucas.
As some of you may know, Luke was diagnosed with pars planitis- an uncommon type of uveitis which is an immunological disease of the eye. It is treatable, but not curable. Uveitis is often undetected or misdiagnosed, and it is among the leading causes of blindness in people under the age of 40 if left undiagnosed and not treated properly/early. In more severe cases, surgery is necessary.
Luke has seen three different doctors for vision issues before being referred to a fourth who is a specialist at Wake Forest baptist medical center in Winston Salem, NC where he was finally diagnosed correctly.
His specialist in Winston Salem; Dr. Shah put him on two different medications. One of the medications being short term steroid which he is now tapered fully off of, and the other which is an immunosuppressant medication.
He had another follow up appointment on 11/9 where they decided to increase his medication to a stronger dose because the fluid build up in his eyes, and inflammation has not improved- and his vision has worsened.
They were also told he will be needing surgery on his eyes to try to help, and preserve his vision. That surgery is scheduled for 11/22. It’s a big surgery for a 10 year old & will require a few weeks of down time for his eyes to recover.
His surgical pre-op is Wednesday 11/15, surgery day is 11/22, one day post op appointment 11/23, one week post op 11/30 and after that is to be determined by his doctor.
Your donation will be to help with any medical expenses, along with all the back and forth they have to do for appointments, to surgery, and the multiple follow up appointments afterwards (1.5 hours one way). It will also help with anything they may need to help get them by such as transportation, food, bills, their three other children, etc. as they will need to take even more time off work for Luke’s surgery, and recovery and don’t have any PTO left.
They hate the thought of asking anyone for help, but they know how hard it is to bounce back when their other son needed surgery and it was a hard hit on them financially but they will always put their children’s health first.
Your donation is going to help make their lives a little easier, and a little less stressful especially with the holiday season upon us. Anything helps, but if you’re unable to donate just keeping Luke & his family in your thoughts is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
