Lucenzo's Path To Hear & Speak
Donation protected
I'm raising funds on behalf of my son Lucenzo who was born deaf almost three years ago. At 14 months old Lucenzo underwent surgery to have a Cochlear implant implanted. Lucenzo has been in rehabilitation since he's 4 months old it hasn’t been easy on him and we have been doing our best with the options we have. His team of intervenors have highly suggested that he attends the MOSD (the Montreal oral school for the deaf). A little history about the MOSD
“At the Montreal Oral School for the Deaf, we’ve been teaching children with hearing loss to listen and speak since we were founded in 1950. That’s more than half a century of experience with the auditory-verbal approach.
We’ve had the time to really hone our programs, to dig deep into new technologies, and to build a truly extraordinary team. Using these tools, we can bring language to even more children who struggle with hearing loss.”
We are raising money so that Lucenzo can attend this school year 2016-2017. Unfortunately due to the dead line in Quebec children who want to attend the school year must be born before September 30th. Since Lucenzo is born October 2nd he misses the dead line by two days. This means that parents must cover the full costs of the school year which is 26,000 dollars and does not include bus service. I have tried everything to make an exception for the two days on the grounds that Lucenzo will benefit immensely in a rich and saturated environment and with one on one teachings that the MOSD can offer to him. These beginner years are the most crucial years for a child, imagine a child with a hearing disability like his. He is already substantially delayed in communication and language and our goal with him attending the MOSD is to minimize his delay and close the gap between his hearing age and his chronological age.
The MOSD is the only solution possible to give him that chance. Lucenzo needs this opportunity to acquire speech, integration into society and in his long term success in our hearing world. We are out of options and resources, this is our last chance to get him into the MOSD. Unfortunately we need to raise these funds as soon as possible because the school year has just begun. The director of the MOSD has confirmed there is a spot for him if we can raise the amount needed of $26,000. We want to give our son all the possibilities that other children have to succeed and we need all of your help. Lucenzo still does not speak his only form of communication is through sign language.
Our goal for our son is to hear him speak in the near future. Please help us make that happen!
There are no words to describe what this opportunity means to our family and to Lucenzo. I want to thank everyone who takes the time to read his story and donate anything they can, every donation will help us set Lucenzo on the right path!!!
