A Future Nurse Is Rising...
Donation protected
TUITION'S been paid!!! I OFFICIALLY HAVE MY DIPLOMA!!! All I need to raise now is $450.00 for my Exam!!!
I am sure many of you know me and how head-strong I can be...which of course can be a very good thing under certain circumstances.
I have always wanted more than anything to become a nurse: someone that would be able to make a change in someone's life, to be able to heal them-to be the vessel that God allows to heal people.
I began the journey to become a nurse by finally (after MANY years in college) taking my studies seriously. I took my classes so seriously that I literally breathed, ate, slept, and dreamed about my classes. Many can attest that I would spend every free moment in the library 7 days a week just to get the best grades I could. I refused to be a statistic! You know...being a hispanic male with no family to count on financially or otherwise. When I was invited to join an International Honor Society I thought I had reached the pinacle of my educational career-or it would have been if the 18 colleges/universities I had applied to that had a Nursing Program hadn't accepted more qualified applicants, although that alone didn't stop me and I graduated May 3, 2014 with High Honors and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Wright College called me 4 days before their Summer LPN Program was to begin and offered me the chance of a lifetime. Someone dropped out at the last minute and I was being offered their seat--without any money to account for I placed my trust in God and I said YES! The program was an arduous one that left me sleepless, stressed, excited, losing tons of weight...but most of all it gave me HOPE that my dream of becoming a Nurse and finally being able to change the world one person at a time would come true. I passed all of the Exams (Lecture and State ATI) and was even granted the honor of being the Class Representative throughout the Program.
As the last 8 week session approached, I had struggles with work due to my having to be absent from my job 1 Wednesday a week without pay to finish the last and most important 12 hour Clinical. Although I originally had permission (from my job-I was extremely honest from day one) from the beginning of the Program that these days would be approved, I almost lost my job due to become "undependable" with my work schedule.
As graduation approached, we knew that we would have to partake in a 3 day ATI (State) Comprehensive Review. The Review would take place AFTER graduation, which was held on May 7, 2015 and I had the immense pleasure of Speaking on behalf of the Graduating Class. I attended the Review but could not attend the actual ATI Comprehensive Exam due to unfortunate events at work, thereby forfeiting the funds paid. I repaid and took the Exam this past July 7, 2015 and failed to pass the exam by 2 percentage points. I now have the opportunity to retake the Exam at my own personal cost (although the exact date isn't known yet), and I unfortunately still have a sizable balance due to the college before I am cleared to take my Licensure Exam.
I humbly write this "short" summary of my time in Nursing School with tears in my eyes in hopes that you, the reader may find it in your heart to help fund this Exam Retake (which I definitely will pass), the required fingerprinting, Application Illinois State Board for Licensure, the use of the Computerized Exam and Results, and the License itself.
I have faith that my hopes and dreams will not end here, as I am hoping to be able to do an unpaid internship with my church to go on a missions trip to help provide medical care to those that would never even dream of being able to see a nurse much less a doctor.
Even if the only donation a person can make is a penny, KNOW in your heart that YOUR donation is going to a person who is dedicated, loyal, faithful, non-complacent, selfless, and LOVING to all race and creed. This NURSE will rise from the ashes and save as many lives as God allows me to until I breathe my own last breath.
I "stand" before you all humbly asking that you allow your hearts to speak to you and believe in someone that KNOWS he was born to help save lives one patient at a time.
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!
