Please support Luis Sanchez, Mt. SAC Student and his family, during this difficult time.

Luis Sanchez, was not only a wonderful and gifted student at Mt. SAC, but a friend to many of us.  On the early morning of April 20, 2019, Luis sadly passed away.

Luis was a warrior.  He endured many challenges in his short time on this earth.  While in high school, Luis was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, fought hard and beat it.  Luis had dreams to pursue a college education and cancer free,  he enrolled at Mt. San Antonio College in the summer of 2017.

While at Mt.SAC, Luis joined many programs that would support his thirst for college success.  He was a member of Honors, Bridge, EOPS, Minority Male Initiative and the Dream Program.  Luis was a recipient of TheDream.US National Scholarship Program.  He maintained a 4.0 GPA, but more importantly, Luis ignited his passion for learning.

Unfortunately, in fall of 2018, Luis was met with another challenge as he was diagnosed with Leukemia. When he was admitted to the hospital, faculty, students and friends visited Luis and lovingly comforted him with tears and laughter.  Luis was hospitalized from the day of his diagnosis to the day he passed away.

In early April, 2019, Luis stated “If I had just a few months more to live, I would have graduated and received my Associates Degree… an honor that would have brought joy to my family.”

On Sunday, April 14, Mt. SAC conferred an Honorary Associate’s degree to Luis. He was the first in his family to receive a degree.  It was a joyous occasion with lots of pictures, smiles, laughter and tears.  This celebration allowed the family a time of graceful normalcy along with great pride for their son and brother Luis.  Six days later, at the tender age of 20, we lost Luis.

We thank you in advance for your support.  Your generous donations will be a beautiful offering to the  grieving family to offset the financial expenses they have incurred during this time.

As many have shared- Luis was a social justice advocate, a lover of sports, a caring and loving human, and embodies all the strength and resilience of immigrants and Dreamers.

Luis, you will be missed - Rest In Peace.
