Luka Gabriel Guglielmo: Journey of Life

My name is Isa Cariati and Luka Gabriel was my godson. Luka was the eldest son of my cousin Angela Guglielmo and her husband Remi, and brother to Madison, Noah and Kali.

I'm asking for your support to help Luka's family through the financial sacrifices and obligations they've had to take on during the time of Luka's illness over the last year and a half. Anything you give will make a huge impact.

Luka was an extremely smart kid with an infectious smile. He always did for others and never expected anything for himself.

In January of 2022, he was diagnosed with cancer, and the fight began.

When a tumour showed up in his leg suddenly, the testing started. Within a couple of short weeks, cancer was diagnosed and a treatment plan was put into place. All upon his 14th birthday.

Chemotherapy and surgery were the plan. Chemo started immediately. Surgery was put in place for later on.

When it was time, surgery would mean many things. Removal, replacement, physio. Just 24 hours after surgery, due to a complication, another procedure was done. Luka lost all feeling from the knee down and spent this last year working on physio, never fully regaining function, feeling, or ability.

His chemo plan finished in the fall. We thought he was done. Instead, we found the cancer had spread to his lungs. And another fight began. He spent nearly two months in the hospital, fighting deadly fevers, with lung issues that meant new chemo, radiation, chest tubes and time in the ICU. In the new year, he finally got to come home.

When they found out the new chemo wasn’t working, they tried something else. And when that didn’t work, something else. Luka ended up in the hospital again.

Just a few short weeks ago, his health started declining. Luka went into the hospital, and in only a few days, drastically took a turn for the worse.

Luka left us on Sunday, May 28th, 2023, leaving family and friends devastated. He was 15 years old.

Sweet Luka will be dearly missed but will live on in our hearts forever.
