Lukas' Emergency Bowel Surgery

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lukas Bagshaw and I have Crohn's Disease. Last week I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme abdominal pain. I knew something wasn't right but never imagined how serious my situation was.

After spending half the day in the ER having scans and tests done, I was told that I had a bowel obstruction and that their surgical team was reviewing my condition. I was concerned but thought for sure that everything would resolve itself after a couple days of observation and having a nasogastric tube inserted (the most uncomfortable thing I've ever experienced!).

After being admitted into the surgical wing of the hospital and spending the night, the head surgeon broke the news to me that surgery was absolutely necessary and was being scheduled for the next day. So many thoughts rushed through my head and I wanted to know so much more but I understood that I needed to trust in their guidance, be strong and have faith.

The incredible surgical team got me through the procedure, the hospital's staff got me on the road to recovery and my friends and loved ones provided the encouragement and support that lifted my spirits through this process.

After 6 long and difficult days, I'm back home and regaining my strength. It will take some time to fully recover but I can't wait to get back out onto the streets and back to my passions of community advocacy and organizing.

However, unfortunately, I'll also be left with a ton of bills that will begin to stack up very soon. In just 2 days I will turn 32 years old (on October 8th). I'm wanting to raise $3,200 to help cover some of the initial costs of my surgery and hospital stay. This will help ease my immediate financial situation and allow me to figure out how to pay down the remaining costs.

I understand that money is also very tight for so many folks that I know and work with. Any amount that you can contribute is greatly appreciated and will make a difference. You can also continue to support me with your thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement while I get back on my feet.

I will return stronger than ever and I'm thankful to have had this opportunity to reinvigorate my efforts towards equity and social justice and to remember how blessed I am for every day I have on this earth.
