Luke Chilcott's Health Journey

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Johnno. I am aware that many people are wanting to help Luke as he fights his current health battle. Luke and Abie are staying in Melbourne for the next several months and money is scarce. So let's get behind them and show them some financial support.

For those who are unaware of Luke's condition and situation, please read the following....

Luke has been living with Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) for over a decade. PNH is a rare haematological condition characterised by the break down of red blood cells. Luke had his ups and downs over the years with infections, hemolysis and thrombi, however things were overall “ok” thanks to new drug therapies and ongoing clinical research.

However, in February 2024 Luke received the devastating news his PNH had caused life threatening bone marrow failure. He received the diagnosis of very severe aplastic anemia (VSAA) in addition to PNH. The next few months would bring trials of multiple drug therapies, all of which have failed, and prolonged painful hospital visits in Tasmania. Since the diagnosis of aplastic anemia, Luke has been battling infections which are becoming increasingly challenging to treat due to total neutropenia (a type of white cell). He is totally transfusion dependent, receiving an average of 10-12 units of platelets and red cells per week to simply keep him alive. Due to the complexity of Lukes condition, and rapid deterioration over the past month, the decision was made to transfer Lukes care to a Melbourne heamatology and transplant team in December 2024. A bone marrow transplant is planned for mid-late January 2025 God willing. A bone marrow transplant is a lengthy, complex and challenging journey, requiring Luke to be off work for 6-12 months with no access to any leave schemes. His wife, Abie, has also relocated to Melbourne and is taking time off work to care for and support Luke.

Luke and Abie truly appreciate your support in this way. Importantly, if you are unable to give financially, please consider donating blood, as Luke requires daily transfusions of red blood cells and platelets. Lastly, we would appreciate your prayer for Luke. We know our God can do mighty things and restore Luke to good health. Thank you
