Luke Heupel

Luke was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on July 10 and transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado in Aurora (Denver) on July 13.  His path forward will include spending the next 6-9 months in Aurora with 5 (+/-) rounds of chemotherapy.  After his blood count numbers recover from the chemotherapy treatment, he will discharge for 1-2 weeks from the hospital before beginning the next round of chemotherapy.  During those times where he is released from the hospital, he will have appointments for tests and labs to monitor his progress which means it will be a while before he is home again.

Luke is a recent graduate from Glacier High School in Kalispell, MT.  Anyone who has spent any amount of time with him would say that he is an “All American” kid.  He represented his school at the state and national levels in both band and FFA.  Luke’s long list of achievements have earned him recognition on the GHS Wall of Fame where he will be inducted in January.

Luke has plans to earn a degree from Montana State University in Plant Science with the career objective of becoming an Agronomist.  He earned several scholarships including one from the music department where he would have been a part of the MSU Trumpet Ensemble team.  He was also planning to become a member of the “Spirit of the West” marching band.

While Luke may pursue university coursework this fall through online means, his medical diagnosis and treatment have caused a tremendous alteration to both his and his family’s plans.
